Guide awaiting review

1

Travel to Vale of Eternal Blossoms

Head to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms in Pandaria. Gilded Moths spawn throughout the zone, primarily around the two large lakes and the area near Mogu'shan Palace.

2

Locate a Group of Three

Gilded Moths spawn in linked groups of three, meaning all moths in a group share the same quality rating and secondary pets. Scan the lakeside areas around Mogu'shan Palace for these clusters, as level 24 moths are more likely to appear there than inside buildings.

3

Battle Two, Leave One

Battle two moths from a linked group of three and leave one alive. The surviving moth acts as an anchor for the group, causing replacements with new stats to respawn within roughly five minutes. If another player defeats the remaining moth before the new ones appear, the spawn cycle breaks and you will need to find a fresh group.

4

Watch for Non-Combat Critters

Sometimes a group of three moths will spawn as non-combat critters instead of battle pets and cannot be engaged. If this happens, move on and search for another group that has spawned as battle pets.

5

Use Target Macro for Level 1 Moths

If hunting the level 1 variants inside the Shrine of Two Moons, use the /tar Gilded Moth macro combined with your Interact with Target keybind, as these moths can sometimes be inside walls or floors on the second level. Note that this method is unreliable and yields only level 1 pets.

Tips

  • Gilded Moths do not appear as secondary pets in other pet battles, so they must be found as primary spawns.

  • The Gilded Moth is available in multiple breeds, and spawns at a given location may only ever produce certain breeds, making a specific rare breed difficult to obtain.
