Amethyst Shale Hatchling
Drops from Jadefang. Adult amethyst shale spiders prefer to create their nests against the outer walls of Deepholm. Elemental type. They're available in Maraudon's purple side, at around level 8. Deepholm ones hover around 22.
The Amethyst Shale Hatchling is a wild pet that can be caught in Maraudon or Deepholm, with Therazane's Throne in Deepholm being the recommended farming location due to its dense spawns and fast respawn rate.

Head to Therazane's Throne
Travel to Therazane's Throne in Deepholm, near Jadefang at 61.2, 22.4. This area has tightly packed Amethyst Shale Hatchling spawns with a very fast respawn rate, allowing you to battle almost continuously.
Check HP to identify quality
At level 8, look for an Amethyst Shale Hatchling with 484 HP or higher to identify uncommon quality — a rare at level 8 has around 563 HP. If the pet's HP is lower than expected, forfeit the battle and try the next spawn.
Try Maraudon's Wicked Tunnels
If you prefer a lower-level option, enter Maraudon and navigate to Zaetar's Choice, then take the left path into the Wicked Tunnels where Amethyst Shale Hatchlings spawn at around level 8. Nearly all of the hatchlings in this area are flagged for pet battling, though most tend to be poor quality.
Tips
At level 7, an uncommon Amethyst Shale Hatchling will have HP values between 436 and 520, while a rare will fall between 464 and 555.
Therazane's Throne allows mounted travel between spawns, unlike Maraudon and the caves under Crimson Expanse and The Quaking Fields, which makes breed hunting significantly faster there.
