Source: Pet Battle. Touched by lightning, these dangerous rodents should be kept at a safe distance. Elemental type. I named mine Electric Jim. Why, you ask?

The Thundertail Flapper is a wild pet found on the Isle of Thunder in Pandaria, described as a lightning-touched rodent that can be captured through wild pet battles.

Guide awaiting review

1

Locate the Thundertail Flapper

The Thundertail Flapper spawns all over the forested and swamp areas of the Isle of Thunder, but is notably absent from Ihgaluk Crag and Za'tual. The highest concentration of sightings has been near the Sunreaver Perimeter Wards outside the Horde camp at Dawnseeker Promontory, and near the Kirin Tor Perimeter Wards outside the Alliance camp at Violet Rise.

2

Expect an Uncommon Spawn Rate

The Thundertail Flapper is significantly rarer than other pets on the island such as the Swamp Croaker and Elder Python, and has never been reported as a secondary pet in a battle. Players have reported waiting roughly two hours before encountering one, and it does not appear to spawn as a second pet in any wild battle.

3

Stage 2 Unlocks More Spawns

Once your realm unlocks Stage 2 of the Isle of Thunder, the Thundertail Flapper becomes easier to find because wild pets can then spawn in the surrounding swamp areas beyond the central Dire Moor, giving more territory for the pet to appear in.

4

Know the Pet's Combat Limitations

The Thundertail Flapper has several abilities with lengthy cooldowns, which heavily restricts how it can be used in battle. Its Tail Slap ability has no cooldown but only an 80% hit chance and deals modest damage, making the pet better suited to being swapped in for one or two specific moves rather than used as a primary fighter.

Tips

  • The Thundertail Flapper is considered weaker than the Lightning Croc and many comparable pets, so using a battle-stone to upgrade its quality before investing heavily in leveling it is worth considering.
