Travel To The Savage Thicket
Head to The Savage Thicket in Northrend and search for the Emerald Proto-Whelp at 45.7, 24.62 and 47.85, 23.02. The spawn rate is slow, so check both locations repeatedly.
Try Triggering Spawns
If no Emerald Proto-Whelps appear at 45.7, 24.62 or 47.85, 23.02, try killing or capturing other battle pets in the zone and then return to the thicket — multiple players have reported several whelps appearing shortly after doing this.
Consider Quality Before Capturing
The pet commonly spawns at Poor or Uncommon quality. If you engage one and find it is not Rare quality, consider logging out rather than capturing or fleeing, so the pet remains available for another player nearby.
Build For Tank And Damage
A P/P breed gives this pet 341 Power and 1,400 HP, with Breath and Emerald Bite each hitting for around 400 damage. Pairing Emerald Dream with Emerald Presence allows it to absorb heavy damage and recover to near full health, making it one of the stronger self-sustaining dragonling pets available.
Tips
If you capture a Poor quality Emerald Proto-Whelp, an upgrade token can raise its quality later, making it worth keeping even at a lower grade.
