Travel to Nazjatar
Head to Nazjatar, where three Scale Matriarch rares can each drop the Scalebrood Hydra: Scale Matriarch Gratinax, Scale Matriarch Zodia, and Scale Matriarch Vynara.
Locate Scale Matriarch Zodia
Find Scale Matriarch Zodia at 24, 47 in Nazjatar and defeat her for a chance at the drop.
Locate Scale Matriarch Vynara
Find Scale Matriarch Vynara at 22, 35 in Nazjatar and defeat her for a chance at the drop.
Monitor Spawn Timers
All three Scale Matriarchs share the same spawn timer, and only one will appear at a time — which one spawns is random. Respawn typically occurs between one and two hours, usually under 1.5 hours.
Expect Multiple Kills
The Scalebrood Hydra is not a guaranteed drop; players have reported needing well over 36 kills across multiple characters before seeing it drop, so repeated farming across all three Matriarchs is expected.
Tips
The Scalebrood Hydra has at least two confirmed skin variations — dark grey and purple — and likely a third to match each Matriarch.
Scale Matriarch Gratinax has been observed spawning more frequently than the other two Matriarchs.
The Scalebrood Hydra is cageable, meaning it can be bought and sold on the Auction House if you prefer not to farm the drop directly.
