Sand Kitten

Battle Pet· Wrath of the Lich KingWILDPETBeast type
Pet Battle

Source: Pet Battle. Originally bred by the Sandfury trolls as pets, these feral and savage felines prowl the deserts of Tanaris. Beast type. I found about 5 of these cats while leveling. 4 of the ones I found were as a secondary pet.

The Sand Kitten is a wild pet found in Tanaris, originally bred by the Sandfury trolls, and can be captured as a rare primary spawn or more commonly as a secondary pet in battles throughout the zone.

Guide awaiting review

1

Hunt Secondary Spawns in Tanaris

Sand Kitten is an extremely rare primary spawn but a common secondary pet. Engage every pet you find across Tanaris, including Sea Gulls, as Sand Kittens frequently appear as secondary pets in those battles. Expect to find no more than 2 primary spawns active in the zone at any given time, so secondary encounters are your most reliable method.

2

Farm Caverns of Time Entrance

The area just outside the Caverns of Time entrance is a strong farming spot, with around 15–20 Infinite Whelps spawning in the courtyard. Clearing the full courtyard has yielded up to 4 Sand Kitten secondaries per pass, and rates appear consistent both outside and inside the caverns. Players have recorded roughly 14 Sand Kitten secondaries per 5 full clears using this method.

3

Capture Carefully to Avoid Kills

Sand Kittens can be rare quality, so use a pet with a weak or single-hit ability to bring them to low health. Avoid multi-round attacks once the kitten is weakened, as accidental kills will cost you the capture entirely.

4

Purchase from Dealer Rashaad

If capturing in the wild proves difficult, Dealer Rashaad sells the Sand Kitten at 43.4, 35.2 in Netherstorm as an alternative source.

Tips

  • Parking an alt at the Caverns of Time entrance lets you check secondary spawns periodically without committing a main character to continuous farming.

  • Sand Kittens appear as secondary pets when initiating combat with other pets in Tanaris, so fighting any pet in the zone — not just specific spawns — can trigger an encounter.
