Guide awaiting review

1

Head to Gorgrond

Travel to Gorgrond and look for shallow pools where Mudback Calves spawn alongside larger hippos. The spawn points are shared with non-battle critter versions of the same name, so killing the critters in the area can eventually prompt a battle pet version to appear.

2

Check the northern shallow pool

Go to at 58.32, 53.16, which is a shallow pool near the top of the zone. This location is particularly reliable because the water is shallow enough that the Mudback Calf can actually be engaged in battle, unlike many other spawn points where the pet will be underwater and unbattleable.

3

Try The Fertile Ground

Another confirmed spawn location is at 41, 77 in The Fertile Ground. If you receive a 'battle area obstructed' error, follow the calf as it walks along the shore and keep clicking on it until the battle initiates.

4

Check Tailthrasher Basin

The Tailthrasher Basin area around 45, 90 has also produced multiple Mudback Calves at once, with pets hanging near the pool's edge making them straightforward to engage without obstruction issues. Both rare and uncommon qualities have been found here.

Tips

  • Many Mudback Calf spawns will be fully underwater and cannot be battled — prioritize the shallow pool locations listed above.

  • The Mudback Calf will never appear as a secondary pet joining another battle, so you must find one as the primary wild pet.
