Guide awaiting review

1

Enter the Skull Tunnel

Head to the south entrance of Utgarde Keep in Howling Fjord. Three skulls frame the entrance — go into the mouth of the skull on your left at 56.6, 49.5 to find a tunnel that winds down into the catacombs beneath Wyrmskull Village.

2

Reach the Bottom Level

Work your way all the way down to the bottom level of the catacombs, where Decomposing Ghouls and Devouring Maggots are found together — do not stop at any upper level, as the maggots only appear at the very bottom.

3

Navigate Past the Undead

Run through the zombies and ghouls rather than fighting them — they deal no damage and stop following you after a short distance, so only kill the few that aggro when you stop near a Devouring Maggot, and avoid using area-of-effect attacks that could accidentally kill the maggots.

4

Battle Outdoor Pets Instead

Alternatively, challenge Fjord Rats in the outdoor area south of Utgarde Keep or Fjord Worgen Pups on Kamagua Island in Howling Fjord, as Devouring Maggots frequently appear as secondary or tertiary pets in those battles — if a Devouring Maggot does not appear as a secondary pet, surrender and move to the next encounter.

Tips

  • The Devouring Maggot does not display on the Northrend Safari achievement progress tracker, but the achievement can still be completed as long as you have captured one, even if it shows as grey.
