Faded Wizard Hat is a toy obtained from a Classic-era quest chain in Azshara that transforms you into a random race or gender for 30 minutes.
Guide awaiting review
Begin the Azshara Chain
Start the prerequisite quest chain in Azshara with 'Azshara Blues', followed by 'Friends Come In All Colors' and 'Helping Ergll'.
Complete Early Quests
Continue through 'A Little Pick-me-up', 'Absorbent', 'Full of Hot Water', and 'That's Just Rude!' to progress the chain.
Find Archmage Xylem
Locate Archmage Xylem and complete 'The Way to a Mage's Heart', 'Wash Out', and 'Dressed to Impress' to begin helping him.
Help Xylem's Apprentices
Work through 'Shear Will', 'Waste of Thyme', 'Renewable Resource', 'Manual Labor', and 'Trouble Under Foot' to assist Xylem and his apprentices.
Reach Xylem's Trials
Complete 'The Pinnacle of Learning' and 'Watch Your Step' to gain access to Xylem's three trials.
Complete the Three Trials
Survive 'The Trial of Fire', 'The Trial of Frost', and 'The Trial of Shadow' — completing each also awards the achievements Glutton for Fiery Punishment, Glutton for Icy Punishment, and Glutton for Shadowy Punishment respectively.
Find Azuregos
After the trials, complete 'Xylem's Asylum', 'Wasn't It Obvious?', 'Easy is Boring', and 'Turning the Tables' to finish the chain and reach the quest 'Farewell, Minnow', which rewards the Faded Wizard Hat.
Tips
The transformation lasts 30 minutes with a 30-minute cooldown, meaning you can remain transformed indefinitely by reusing the hat.
While transformed, only your weapons are visible — all other appearance elements are determined by the transformation.
The Faded Wizard Hat is flagged as a Quest Item, so take care not to accidentally delete it from your inventory.
Druid forms and similar class-based transformations will cancel the Faded Wizard Hat's effect.
