Understand the Book Spawn Timers
Each book spawns on a 3 to 4 hour timer and only spawns at one fixed location. Each spawn location also produces non-achievement books, so a book appearing does not guarantee it is the one needed for the achievement. Reading a book causes it to despawn within 3 minutes, while leaving it unread causes it to despawn within 5 minutes, both resetting the spawn timer.
Claim Your Kirin Tor Familiar
Once all eight books are read and the Higher Learning achievement completes, use The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery item to teleport to a room atop the Violet Citadel and speak with Archmage Vargoth, who will reward you with the Kirin Tor Familiar pet. To return to the main level of Dalaran, use The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery item again to port back down.
