Grand Black War Mammoth

Rarely, a war mammoth is born stronger and more tractable than its peers. These mammoths are dubbed "grand" and carry more than one rider to the front lines.

Acquisition Guide

The Reins of the Grand Black War Mammoth is a 2-passenger mount that drops from Archavon the Stone Watcher or Emalon the Storm Watcher inside the Vault of Archavon raid, available in both 10-man and 25-man difficulties.

1

Enter Vault of Archavon

Travel to the Vault of Archavon in Wintergrasp and enter the raid on either 10-man or 25-man difficulty. Both difficulties have a chance to drop the mount.

2

Defeat Archavon and Emalon

Defeat both Archavon the Stone Watcher and Emalon the Storm Watcher during your run, as the mount can drop from either boss and both can be looted in the same lockout.

3

Claim your loot carefully

If you win the mount and intend to trade or sell it to another player, do not right-click it — doing so will immediately learn the mount rather than placing it in the trade window, and Game Masters cannot restore it once learned due to its link to an achievement.

Tips

  • The mount can drop from both Archavon and Emalon in the same run, giving you two chances per lockout per difficulty.

  • This mount is frequently taken by master looters in organized runs, so be aware of loot distribution rules before joining a group.
