Black Drake
It never pays to leave a live dragon out of the equation.
Acquisition Guide
The Black Drake is a mount that drops from Sartharion in The Obsidian Sanctum and has a 100% drop chance when Sartharion is defeated with all three drakes still alive.
Enter The Obsidian Sanctum
Travel to The Obsidian Sanctum in Dragonblight and enter the raid. Clear the trash inside but leave Tenebron, Shadron, and Vesperon — all three drakes — alive before engaging Sartharion.
Keep All Three Drakes Alive
Do not kill any of the three drakes before pulling Sartharion. The 100% drop chance on the Black Drake only applies when Sartharion is killed while all three drakes are still alive.
Defeat Sartharion
Engage and defeat Sartharion with all three drakes still alive. A useful positioning approach is to tank Sartharion perpendicular to his natural resting position, facing north near where Shadron lands, assaulting from the southwest ledge of the island between Tenebron and Vesperon.
Tips
The 10-man version with all three drakes alive is considered significantly harder than the 25-man version, so the 25-man is recommended if you want an easier clear.
