Ashes of Al'ar

Al'ar was the beloved pet of Kael'thas Sunstrider, who often boasted that death would never claim it. Perhaps he was right.

Acquisition Guide

The Ashes of Al'ar is a phoenix flying mount that drops from Kael'thas Sunstrider in The Eye, Tempest Keep, introduced during The Burning Crusade expansion.

1

Enter The Eye

Travel to Tempest Keep in Netherstorm and enter The Eye raid. At max level you can solo the instance and fight your way through to Kael'thas Sunstrider.

2

Defeat Kael'thas Sunstrider

Kill Kael'thas Sunstrider, the final boss of The Eye. The Ashes of Al'ar has approximately a 1–2% drop chance from this boss.

3

Loot the Ashes

If the mount drops, loot it directly from Kael'thas Sunstrider. Because the drop rate is around 1–2%, most players will need to return weekly over many months before seeing it drop.

Tips

  • The drop rate is fixed at approximately 1–2% and does not increase with repeated kills.

  • When mounted, the Ashes of Al'ar flies at 310% flight speed and runs at standard epic mount speed on the ground, with Crusader Aura boosting ground speed to 492%.

  • The phoenix has no visible legs and continuously flaps its wings even while stationary on the ground, and leaves trailing effects from its wings and tail.
