Acquisition Guide

The Riding Turtle is a mount obtained from the World of Warcraft TCG expansion Heroes of Azeroth via the Saltwater Snapjaw loot card, or alternatively by defeating the Frostdeep Cavedweller, a creature summoned by fishing up a Frostdeep Minnow in a Tier 3 Fishing Shack within your Garrison.

1

Build Tier 3 Fishing Shack

Construct a Tier 3 Fishing Shack in your Garrison to unlock access to Frostdeep Minnow fishing and the subsequent Frostdeep Cavedweller encounter.

2

Earn Draenor Angler Achievement

Complete the Draenor Angler achievement, which is required to fish up the Frostdeep Minnow — without it you cannot summon the Frostdeep Cavedweller.

3

Fish Up Frostdeep Minnow

Fish in your Garrison to obtain a Frostdeep Minnow, then throw it into the water to summon the Frostdeep Cavedweller, which will charge directly at you.

4

Defeat Frostdeep Cavedweller

Kill the Frostdeep Cavedweller for a chance at the Riding Turtle mount; running in a 40-player group greatly increases effective drop rate, and the mount can be traded to other raid members for two hours after looting.

Tips

  • The Riding Turtle can also be obtained via the TCG loot card Saltwater Snapjaw from Heroes of Azeroth booster packs, and the loot card can be purchased from other players or sites such as eBay.

  • The Riding Turtle moves at normal walking/running speed on land but swims at 108% running speed in water; the mount-up guild perk raises this to 110% running speed.

  • Both the Riding Turtle and Sea Turtle are usable at level 1 without any riding skill and are shared across all characters on the same realm.

  • A macro using /cast Riding Turtle can help low-level characters bypass the interface bug that prevents dragging the mount icon onto action bars.
