Get a speed boost at the start
At the very start of the race, immediately grab a speed-up to gain increased movement speed. Getting hit twice by the zeppelin while using button 3 for the buff (granting 150 increased speed) is an alternative method if speed-ups are not available.
Use the restart macro
Use this macro to quickly restart the race without losing your speed buff: /cancelaura Wanderluster and /run AcceptQuest() — pressing it dismounts you from the Wanderluster and immediately re-accepts the quest so your speed increase does not drop off.
Reach first banner early
Reach the first banner before the 4th toll rings and the last banner before the 8th toll rings — these are the two critical timing checkpoints for earning the gold rank.
Monitor tolls by race section
The race is divided into 4 sections; track your toll count per section rather than overall. A score breakdown such as 3 tolls in section one, 2 in section two, 2 in section three, and 3 in section four adds up to 10 tolls total, which is within the 11-toll requirement. If you keep accumulating 4 tolls in the first section, focus your speed improvement there.
Tips
Acting immediately when restarting the quest is critical to prevent the speed buff from falling off before the race begins.
