Magnets, How Do They Work? is a 10-point achievement earned by defeating Orebender Gor'ashan in Upper Blackrock Spire on Heroic difficulty without allowing him to complete Thundering Cacophony 4 times.
Enter on Heroic Difficulty
Set Upper Blackrock Spire to Heroic difficulty before entering. At max level you can solo this dungeon without a group.
Remove the Giant Traps
At the start of the Orebender Gor'ashan encounter, remove the giant traps on the floor before engaging the boss.
Understand the Conduit Phases
Gor'ashan activates Power Conduits at 75%, 50%, and 25% health — 2 conduits at 75%, 4 at 50%, and 6 at 25%. He casts Thundering Cacophony while conduits are active, and closing all active conduits stuns him and interrupts the cast, so no kick is required.
Close Conduits Quickly
You have a maximum of 3 completed Thundering Cacophony casts across all phases before the 4th completes and fails the achievement. Assign players to specific conduits — for example, spread across the corners of the upper platform — so all conduits are deactivated as fast as possible each phase.
Nuke or Reset as Needed
If your damage is high enough to burn Gor'ashan before he completes 4 casts, do so. If he raises his shield and the attempt goes poorly, wipe to reset the encounter and try again.
Count Casts Manually
Count completed Thundering Cacophony casts manually rather than relying on any addon, as some addons count cast attempts rather than finished casts and will incorrectly indicate failure even when the achievement is still achievable.
