Proving Yourself: Gold Damage (Level 90)
Successfully complete the Basic Damage (Gold) trial at the Proving Grounds.
Proving Yourself: Gold Damage (Level 90) is an achievement earned by successfully completing the Gold tier of the Basic Damage trial at the Proving Grounds.
Understand Gear Scaling Rules
Your gear is scaled down to item level 463 for the trial, set bonuses and the special effects of legendary meta gems are disabled, and potions cannot be used. Flasks and food buffs are allowed, and profession perks such as Synapse Springs or Nitro Boosts remain active.
Save Cooldowns For Later Waves
Waves 1 through 6 are manageable without using major cooldowns (3-minute or longer), so hold those abilities in reserve. Use whatever crowd control your class provides — roots, stuns, fears, interrupts, or silences — to manage enemies during these early rounds.
Control Banana-Tossers With CC
Banana-Tossers run around and continuously fire Bananastorm at you, so use a root or snare to stop their movement immediately when they appear. Follow up by using an Amber-Weaver's orb to stun the Banana-Tosser and then burst it down quickly.
Prioritize Targets Each Wave
Always interrupt Heal Illusion from Mystic-type enemies to prevent them from recovering health. On waves featuring both a Banana-Tosser and a Mystic, CC one while killing the other, then clean up remaining targets in the order that leaves the least dangerous enemy for last.
Burst With Cooldowns On Wave 7
Wave 7 is a significant jump in difficulty — pop your major class cooldowns here. Stand between the guardian and mystic, immediately root the Banana-Tosser and let the Amber-Weaver's orb stun it, then burn the Banana-Tosser, kill the banshee as it spawns, and finish the mystic before clearing the remaining enemies.
Manage Final Waves Carefully
On waves 8 through 10, rotate your remaining major cooldowns as they come off cooldown — Ret Paladin players for example use Avenging Wrath for wave 7, Berserker for waves 8 and 9, and Avenging Wrath again on wave 10 when it returns. Survival Hunters should use Ice Trap on Weavers, Counter Shot on Mystics, and save Stampede and Rapid Fire for the wave 10 Sha when its shield drops.
Tips
See the video guides linked for class-specific demonstrations of wave 7 through 10 cooldown usage.
You take zero damage throughout the DPS challenges, so focus entirely on damage output and target priority rather than defensive play.
