That's a Lot of Pet Food

Work through zones in this order to capture wild battle pets: start in Durotar and work south through the Eastern Kingdoms to Stranglethorn Vale, then do Outland, Northrend, Cataclysm zones, and finally Pandaria. Each zone contains different pet types, so capturing one of each unique species is required.

Purchase vendor pets including Albino Snake, Ancona Chicken, Black Kingsnake, Cat Carrier (Bombay), Blue Clockwork Rocket Bot, Blue Dragonhawk Hatchling, Blue Moth Egg, Prairie Dog Whistle, Brown Rabbit Crate, Brown Snake, Cat Carrier (Calico Cat), Parrot Cage (Cockatiel), and Undercity Cockroach from vendors across Azeroth; some are also available on the Auction House.

There is no Safari achievement for Deepholm, so these pets are easy to miss: the Crimson Geode, Crimson Shale Hatchling, Crystal Beetle, Deepholm Cockroach, and Fungal Moth are all found in the Crimson Expanse on the east side of Deepholm, while the Stowaway Rat is found in the shipwreck southwest of the central hub.

In Winterspring, the Snowy Owl is only available during winter. In Felwood, the Minfernal requires killing infernals in the zone to trigger a spawn and is not connected to the rare spawn — killing the rare spawn does not guarantee a Minfernal appearance. In Dustwallow Marsh, only one Spawn of Onyxia is active at a time with roughly a 5 to 10 minute respawn, and none are found attached to other mobs near Onyxia's lair.

In Northern Barrens, the Cheetah Cub has very few spawn points and can be found under large trees where cheetahs rest in the shade. In Southern Barrens, the Giraffe Cub similarly has limited spawn locations.

There are 31 promotion pets and 14 Trading Card Game pets in the total pool; promotion pets were typically tied to one-time regional events and are generally no longer obtainable, while TCG pet cards can be found on the Auction House or from other players.
