A Rare Catch
Capture a rare battle pet.
A Rare Catch requires you to capture a wild battle pet that has a rare (blue) quality rating, meaning it has better stats than common or uncommon pets of the same level.
Understand Pet Quality
Battle pet rarity refers to the quality of a pet's stats, not its spawn type — an everyday Rabbit or Squirrel can roll as rare quality, appearing identical to any other but having noticeably higher stats such as HP for its level.
Check Quality During Battle
Run this macro while in a pet battle to see the quality of each enemy pet: /run for i=1,C_PetBattles.GetNumPets(2) do SELECTED_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(C_PetBattles.GetName(2,i)..' - '.._G['BATTLE_PET_BREED_QUALITY'..C_PetBattles.GetBreedQuality(2,i)]) end — any pet showing as rare (blue) is your capture target.
Identify Rares by Stats
Mouse over enemy pet portraits during battles to compare their stats — most pets will share similar numbers (common), while a rare pet will show stats that appear roughly 3–4 levels higher than expected for its level.
Capture the Rare Pet
When battling groups of two or three wild pets, you can compare stats across all enemies to spot the rare-quality one, then use your capture ability on that specific pet to earn the achievement.
Tips
Zones with two or three pet groups per battle give you more pets to compare per encounter, making rare-quality pets easier to spot without additional battles.
