Vial of the Sands
Learn how to transform into a dragon and carry an ally.
The
Vial of the Sands is a consumable that transforms you into a dragon capable of carrying one passenger, and crafting it requires both Alchemy and Archaeology.
Reach Required Profession Levels
You must be an Alchemist with at least 525 Alchemy and at least 450 Archaeology to craft the Vial of the Sands. Non-Alchemists can skip to step 5 and simply ride on another player's back.
Farm Kalimdor Archaeology Digsites
Dig at Archaeology sites on the Kalimdor continent, prioritizing Tol'vir digsites, until you obtain a
Canopic Jar.
Open the Canopic Jar
Open your
Canopic Jar, which has approximately a 9.5% chance to contain the
Recipe: Vial of the Sands; if it does not contain the recipe, continue farming Tol'vir digsites for more jars.
Learn and Craft the Recipe
Learn the
Recipe: Vial of the Sands and purchase the required vendor materials —
Pyrium-Laced Crystalline Vial and
Sands of Time — to craft the
Vial of the Sands; there is no cooldown on crafting, so you may craft multiple in succession. The recipe and finished vials are also available on the Auction House if you prefer not to craft it yourself.
Learn the Vial to Earn the Achievement
Use the
Vial of the Sands from your inventory to learn the transformation — simply keeping it in your bags without learning it will not grant the achievement.
Tips
The recipe has approximately a 9.5% drop chance from the Canopic Jar, so multiple jars will likely be needed before it drops.
There is no cooldown on crafting the Vial of the Sands, meaning Alchemists can craft as many as they wish in one session.
You do not need to own a Vial of the Sands yourself to fly as a passenger — any Alchemist who has learned the transformation can carry you.
