Realm First! Illustrious Alchemist
First person on the realm to achieve 525 skill in alchemy.
Realm First! Illustrious Alchemist is awarded to the first player on a realm to reach 525 Alchemy skill after Cataclysm launches.
Stockpile Mats Before Launch
Before Cataclysm goes live, gather materials for any orange-difficulty recipes you already have access to, since these guarantee a skill-up and reduce the amount of new-zone farming required at launch.
Learn Cataclysm Recipes Early
As soon as Cataclysm launches, learn available Alchemy recipes and begin farming herbs while leveling, since most players are expected to prioritize gathering professions before crafting ones, giving you a window to push ahead.
Farm Whiptail in Uldum
Spend a significant portion of your leveling time farming Whiptail in Uldum, as it is a primary herb source for the flasks used to push skill points through the mid-to-upper skill range.
Use Transmutes for Final Points
For the final skill points approaching 525, use rare gem transmutes such as Demonseye and Ocean Sapphire, which remain yellow through 525, and Amberjewel, which stays orange — these are likely cheaper than crafting flasks that have turned green by 520. Note that rare gem transmutes currently share no cooldown, though Pyrium and Truegold share a 20-hour cooldown with Transmute Living Essence.
Tips
Volatile Life has a low drop rate from herbs, so factor in extra herb farming time when planning flask crafting for the upper skill range.
Coordinating with a Mining or Jewelcrafting alt or friend can reduce the cost of rare gem transmutes needed for the final skill points.
