Kill 20 Mine Rats during the Helix Gearbreaker encounter in Deadmines on Heroic Difficulty.

Rat Pack is a 10-point Heroic difficulty achievement earned by killing 20 Mine Rats during the Helix Gearbreaker encounter in Deadmines.

1

Enter Deadmines on Heroic

Enter Deadmines on Heroic difficulty and engage the Helix Gearbreaker encounter. Do NOT kill Lumbering Oaf — he is the NPC that spawns the Mine Rats and must stay alive throughout the process.

2

Gear down before fighting

Remove gear such as rings, trinkets, neck, and weapon to reduce your damage output so you do not accidentally kill Lumbering Oaf or the Mine Rats too quickly with passive effects.

3

Let Lumbering Oaf charge you

Each time Lumbering Oaf uses his charge ability and smashes you into a lumber pile, a random number of Mine Rats spawn around that pile — 4 to 5 charges should produce enough rats to reach 20 kills total.

4

Kill only Mine Rats

Use only auto attacks and target Mine Rats exclusively; using the macro /target Mine Rat followed by /cast Auto Attack helps avoid accidentally hitting Lumbering Oaf. Do not kill Lumbering Oaf before reaching 20 Mine Rat kills.

5

Reset the fight if needed

If Lumbering Oaf is accidentally killed or the attempt goes wrong, run just outside the door you entered from to reset the encounter. The kill count toward 20 Mine Rats is cumulative across multiple resets and runs, so the fight does not need to be completed in a single attempt.

Tips

  • The Mine Rat kill count is cumulative across multiple runs and resets, so there is no penalty for resetting the Helix Gearbreaker encounter repeatedly.

  • Avoid killing the adds near Helix Gearbreaker before engaging, as Lumbering Oaf can be standing on top of one of them and may be killed accidentally.
