Tripping the Rifts
Destroyed one of each type of elemental rift during the Cataclysm launch event.
Tripping the Rifts is a limited-time Cataclysm pre-launch event achievement that required you to be present when one of each type of elemental rift (Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water) closed, granting you a buff for each type.
Note Event Availability
This was a limited-time event that went live November 1st, 2010 and ended permanently on November 23rd, 2010 with The Shattering. The achievement is no longer obtainable.
Locate Earth Elemental Rifts
Earth rifts were found in Storm Peaks, just east of the sleeping Giant in the Gnoll camp west of K2 at 36, 81. Additional rift spawn locations recorded include at 36.9, 46.7 and at 21.1, 80.3.
Locate Water Elemental Rifts
Water rifts were found in Dragonblight at Ruby Dragonshrine at 49, 50. Additional recorded spawn points include at 45.2, 49.2 and at 53.3, 55.4.
Locate Wind Elemental Rifts
Wind rifts were found in Borean Tundra just north of the Airstrip at 55, 15. Additional recorded spawn points include at 55.6, 45.2 and at 72.5, 41.3.
Locate Fire Elemental Rifts
Fire rifts were found in Zul'Drak near the Altar of Har'koa at 61, 67. Additional recorded spawn points include at 60, 35.5 and at 59.6, 39.1.
Close Rifts for Buffs
Each buff was obtained by being present when an elemental rift of that type closed. Rifts had approximately a one-hour respawn timer, and all four buffs could be held simultaneously, each lasting one hour. Destroying rifts anywhere counted toward the achievement, but Mysterious Objects could only be looted in level-appropriate zones.
Tips
You could use the targeting macro '/cleartarget /tar surging e /tar searing e /tar rumbling e /tar gusting e' while flying to quickly locate active rifts by targeting their associated elementals.
