Keeping it in the Family
Damage Nefarian below 50% health before he lands for the final confrontation and then defeat Nefarian in Blackwing Descent.
Keeping it in the Family is a 10-point achievement in Blackwing Descent that requires damaging Nefarian below 50% health before he lands for the final phase, then defeating him.
Engage Nefarian, Skip Onyxia
Jump into the pit to start the encounter but do not attack Onyxia. Wait for Nefarian to fly down and become targetable, then begin dealing damage to him.
Burn Nefarian to 60–65%
DPS Nefarian down to around 60–65% health during Phase 1. You will need approximately three Electrocute casts (crackles) to occur before proceeding; using Heroism or Bloodlust just before the third crackle is optional but can help.
Kill Onyxia
Once Nefarian is at roughly 60–65% health, kill Onyxia to trigger the transition to Phase 2. If using Heroism, activate it just before the third Electrocute hits, then kill Onyxia immediately after.
Mount the Pillars in Phase 2
When the magma rises from the floor, jump onto one of the pillars and kill the Chromatic Prototype add on it. Be careful not to over-DPS Nefarian during this phase — you can only reduce his health by approximately 15% here before his landing sequence begins, so stop damage if he approaches 50%.
Damage Nefarian Below 50%
While on the pillars in Phase 2, deal enough damage to bring Nefarian to just below 50% health but do not kill him. Avoid using damage-over-time effects that could push him too low unintentionally, and remove or disable any gear that significantly inflates your damage output if necessary.
Kill Chromatic Prototypes
Once Nefarian is below 50% health, quickly finish off the three Chromatic Prototype adds on the pillars before Nefarian lands.
Wait for Nefarian to Land
Nefarian will emote that he is about to land — allow him to complete his landing animation before engaging him in Phase 3.
Defeat Nefarian
Once Nefarian has landed and Phase 3 begins, kill him to complete the achievement.
Tips
If you are playing a class or spec with a legendary or high-damage item that removes large chunks of Nefarian's health in a single hit, consider temporarily removing that item during Phase 2 to avoid accidentally pushing him past the 50% threshold too quickly or killing him before he lands.
