Locate and unlock a hidden appearance for your artifact as a Death Knight.

Hidden Potential of the Deathlord requires you to unlock one hidden artifact appearance as a Death Knight, with each specialization having its own distinct method of obtaining it.

1

Unlock Your Class Hall

Before pursuing any hidden appearance, you must have your Death Knight class hall unlocked and the base artifact weapon for your chosen specialization.

2

Blood: Farm Withered Army Training

The Twisting Anima of Souls has a chance to drop from Withered Army Training, with a score above 300 believed to be required for it to have a chance to appear. To unlock Withered Army Training, progress through the Suramar campaign until you receive and complete the quest Building an Army.

3

Frost: Defeat The Soultakers

The Runes of the Darkening can drop from The Soultakers, a Broken Isles World Boss. Defeat The Soultakers whenever it is available on the world boss rotation.

4

Unholy: Spawn Special Minion Via Proving Grounds

Army of the Dead and Apocalypse each have a small chance to spawn a special NPC that can drop the hidden appearance. Use Deathgate to travel to your order hall, speak with Lord Thorval to enter Proving Grounds, then talk to the trial master to start a Bronze difficulty damage trial. Cast Army of the Dead, apply Festering Strike twice to the first mob, then cast Apocalypse — this allows you to continuously reset cooldowns and repeat attempts efficiently.

Tips

  • The Proving Grounds method for Unholy allows cooldown resets between attempts, making it the most efficient way to repeatedly trigger Army of the Dead and Apocalypse without waiting in the open world.
