Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings is a legendary weapon obtained by collecting shards, combining them, and completing a quest culminating in the defeat of Yogg-Saron.
Collect 30 Shards
Gather 30 shards (item 45038) from Ulduar. Once you have all 30, combine them to receive the legendary quest item (item 45039).
Turn In at the Archivum
Bring the combined quest item to an NPC inside the Archivum in Ulduar to receive the next stage of the quest.
Throw Shards into Yogg-Saron
During the Yogg-Saron encounter, throw the shards into his maw while he is casting Deafening Roar, which occurs later in the fight.
Defeat Yogg-Saron
After throwing the shards during Deafening Roar, complete the Yogg-Saron encounter to receive Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings.
