King's Bane
Defeat King Ymiron in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in the party triggering Bane.
King's Bane is a 10-point achievement earned by defeating King Ymiron in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic difficulty without any party member triggering his Bane buff.
Dismiss Pets Before Engaging
Dismiss any active pets before pulling King Ymiron, as a pet striking the boss while Bane is active will disqualify the achievement. Also avoid casting Thorns, as it will trigger Bane.
Stop Attacking During Bane
King Ymiron casts Bane approximately every 20 seconds after being engaged, and this timer resets each time he moves to one of his arks at 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20% health. The moment he begins casting Bane, all melee players including the tank must click off the boss by clicking empty space, and all DPS must stop attacking until the buff is gone.
Dispel Bane Immediately
Purge, spellsteal, or dispel Bane from King Ymiron as soon as it appears to minimize the window where accidental hits can disqualify the achievement. If a Mage spellsteals Bane and is then struck while carrying the buff, the achievement will also be lost. A Warlock's Felhunter using Devour Magic on auto-cast handles this automatically.
Tips
Bane's timer resets every time King Ymiron walks to an ark, so the transitions at 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20% health each give the group a fresh 20-second window before the next cast.
This is not a DPS race; King Ymiron can cast Bane many times throughout the fight without failing the achievement as long as no one strikes him while the buff is active.
