Leading the Cavalry
Obtain 50 mounts (usable by a single character).
Leading the Cavalry requires you to obtain 50 mounts usable by a single character, rewarding you with the
Reins of the Albino Drake upon completion.
Buy Capital City Mounts
Purchase mounts from your faction's capital city vendors. Alliance players can collect up to 7 mounts from Stormwind, 6 from Ironforge, 6 from Darnassus, 6 from the Exodar, and 7 from Gnomeregan Exiles vendors (if gnome or dwarf), totaling around 30 mounts from Azeroth capitals alone.
Earn Outland Reputation Mounts
Grind reputation with Outland factions to purchase additional mounts: 8 talbuks from Kurenai (Alliance) or Mag'har (Horde) at Exalted, 6
Netherwing Drakes from the Netherwing faction at Exalted, and 5
Nether Rays from the Skyguard faction at Exalted.
Purchase Outland Flying Mounts
Buy up to 7 gryphons (Alliance) or
Wind Riders (Horde) from the Shadowmoon Valley vendor, and 1
Cenarion War Hippogryph from the Cenarion Expedition at Exalted.
Collect PvP Honor Mounts
Purchase up to 5 PvP war mounts using honor points from the Champions' Hall (Alliance) or Hall of Legends (Horde), and earn 1 additional mount such as the
Horn of the Frostwolf Howler using Alterac Valley marks.
Craft Engineering Mounts
If you have Engineering, craft the
Flying Machine Control and the
Turbo-Charged Flying Machine Control to add 2 more mounts to your total.
Collect Class-Specific Mounts
Paladins and Warlocks each receive 2 class-specific mounts (1 rare and 1 epic), which count toward the 50-mount total.
Farm Rare Drop Mounts
If you still need mounts to reach 50, enter older raids and dungeons to farm rare drops such as
Deathcharger's Reins from Baron Rivendare, or the Zul'Gurub raptor and tiger mounts. These low-drop-rate mounts can supplement your total if you fall short from the purchasable options above.
Tips
Tauren players cannot use Darkspear Troll or Silvermoon City mounts, so they should prioritize Outland reputation grinds and PvP mounts to compensate for the reduced capital city pool.
Gnome and dwarf characters have access to additional Gnomeregan Exiles mounts and an extra PvP mount, giving them a higher purchasable ceiling and making it easier to reach 50 without rare drops.
