Storm Rider: Gold
Obtain gold in all the Storm Gryphon races.
Storm Rider: Gold requires you to earn a gold medal in all six Storm Gryphon races across the Dragon Isles, rewarding the title The Storm Rider upon completion.
Unlock the Storm Races
Purchase at least the Heroic Edition of The War Within to receive the Algarian Stormrider mount. Mount up and fly around on it until Herald Flaps approaches you and offers the quest Lightning Strikes, sending you to the Skytop Observatory in the Waking Shores at 71.29, 24.66. Turn in the quest to Lord Andestrasz, who then assigns The Storm Race Tour, requiring you to complete all six Dragon Isles races.
Complete Ruby Lifeshrine Loop
Head to the Ruby Lifeshrine race start in the Waking Shores at 71.29, 24.66. This is a moderately difficult race — practice the course once before attempting gold to learn sharp turns and straight sections.
Complete Fen Flythrough
Travel to the Fen Flythrough race in Ohn'ahran Plains at 84.45, 37.95. This is considered the easiest of the six races, making it a good starting point for building confidence with the Storm Gryphon mechanics.
Complete Tyrhold Trial
Find the Tyrhold Trial race in Thaldraszus at 86, 35. This is one of the more difficult races, so practice the layout carefully before your gold attempt.
Complete Stormsunder Crater Circuit
Head to the Stormsunder Crater Circuit in the Forbidden Reach at 38, 60. This race is above average in difficulty, so take a practice run to identify the tightest turns.
Complete Vakthros Ascent and Crystal Circuit
Complete the Vakthros Ascent race in the Azure Span and the Crystal Circuit in Zaralek Cavern. Vakthros Ascent is considered the hardest of all six races. No verified waypoints are available for these two locations — use the in-game map to find their race start markers.
Track Your Gold Progress
To check which races you have already earned gold in, paste the following into your chat box: /run for i = 1, 6 do d,_,_,q,_,_,_,_,_,_ = GetAchievementCriteriaInfo(18931, i); print(d, q); end — a result of Gold 1 means gold is earned for that race, and Gold 0 means it still needs to be completed.
Use Lightning Rush Correctly
Lightning Rush reduces your ability to turn at maximum speed, so only activate it on straight, open sections of each course. Avoid small obstacles scattered throughout the tracks, as colliding with them resets your speed to zero and can end a gold-qualifying run. Skyward Ascent used heavily can also substitute for Lightning Rush if needed, with some racers finishing with one to two seconds to spare using that technique alone.
Tips
Sort your attempts by difficulty — start with Fen Flythrough, then Crystal Circuit, Ruby Lifeshrine Loop, Stormsunder Crater Circuit, Tyrhold Trial, and save Vakthros Ascent for last as it is the hardest.
Do one full practice lap on each course before your gold attempt to memorize sharp turns and identify which straight sections are safe for Lightning Rush.
