Eastern Plaguelands: manage vigor
Conserve vigor in the early and middle stages of this race. Use Skyward Ascent on inclines, and on shorter inclines convert the upward momentum into downward momentum on the other side. The timer is more forgiving in this reverse direction.
Gilneas: go easy on vigor
As with the forward version of this race, avoid spending vigor heavily, especially early on. In open areas where rings are far apart, use the Skyward Ascent trick to gain extra forward momentum and build a time buffer. The timer is slightly less tight here than in the forward version.
General race advice
These races are generally forgiving — Surge Forward works well and Skyward Ascent is not required. Most gold times can be cleared with 1 to 4 seconds to spare, and few races should require more than three attempts.
