Explore The Maw is a 10-point exploration achievement earned by revealing all covered areas of The Maw on the world map.
Meet Ve'nari Reputation Requirement
Reach at least Tentative reputation with Ve'nari before attempting locked areas. Several zones including Perdition Hold and The Altar of Damnation require completing the Rule 5: Be Audacious questline to unlock access to the southern part of the map.
Bypass The Locked Gate
To reach The Altar of Damnation before reaching Tentative with Ve'nari, you must get past a locked gate by using the terrain to climb atop the battlements. A Demon Hunter's Glide ability or a Goblin Glider Kit can help you cross this barrier. Outlaw Rogues may be able to hook directly onto the battlements, and Shadowstep can be used to reach a nearby mob (sap it immediately upon landing).
Explore The Beastwarrens Safely
The Beastwarrens, Ravener's Lament, Marrow's Coppice, and Desmotaeron are filled with extremely powerful rares. The Beastwarrens applies a zone-wide debuff that fears you and deals approximately 10, 000 damage over time — this applies to the entire area, not just the labeled subzone. Find a large open area free of mobs before the fear triggers, then eat or use healing items after each fear to recover. Riding the rideable maw-mounts that drop in the area negates the fear portion of the debuff, though the damage-over-time still applies; do not heal while mounted or you will be dismounted.
Tips
Bring food and healing items into The Beastwarrens to recover between fear applications.
The achievement is obtainable at any point after reaching level 60, even with little to no Ve'nari reputation, provided you can survive or bypass the locked areas.
