Mana Sponge
Defeat Maut in Ny'alotha, the Waking City after defeating a Forbidden Manifestation on Normal difficulty or higher.
Mana Sponge is a 10-point achievement earned by defeating Maut in Ny'alotha, the Waking City after first defeating a Forbidden Manifestation on Normal difficulty or higher.
Enter on Normal Difficulty
Enter Ny'alotha, the Waking City and set the difficulty to Normal or higher before engaging Maut.
Clear Trash, Engage Maut
Clear all trash leading to Maut, then engage the boss and bring his health down to around 50%.
Intercept the Manifestation
Maut will spawn purple pools that produce a manifestation add — position yourself between the manifestation and Maut so the manifestation cannot reach the boss, as it will die if it touches him.
Feed Manifestation a Mana Orb
When Maut enters his stone phase, blue mana orbs will travel toward him — move so that one of these orbs hits the manifestation instead of the boss, which will empower the manifestation and transform it into a Forbidden Manifestation.
Kill Forbidden Manifestation
Once the add transforms into the Forbidden Manifestation, kill it before finishing off Maut to complete the achievement requirement.
Defeat Maut
After the Forbidden Manifestation is dead, break Maut's mana shield and then nuke him down to complete the encounter and earn the Mana Sponge achievement.
Tips
If soloing without a pet, tank spec makes surviving the extended phase easier since you need to keep the manifestation alive until Maut reaches his stone phase.
Pet classes and classes with summonable guardian abilities such as the Ox Statue can use those to taunt the manifestation away from Maut, making the solo attempt significantly more straightforward.
If running with a small group, designate one player with a taunt to hold the third add in a pool away from the group so it is not killed before being used to absorb a mana orb.
