Defeat Mephistroth within the Cathedral of Eternal Night after blocking 20 Shadow Blasts with the Aegis of Aggramar on Mythic difficulty.

Master of Shadows requires you to defeat Mephistroth in the Cathedral of Eternal Night on Mythic difficulty after blocking 20 Shadow Blasts with the Aegis of Aggramar to protect Illidan.

1

Enter on Mythic Difficulty

Set the Cathedral of Eternal Night to Mythic difficulty before entering, then fight your way to Mephistroth.

2

DPS Mephistroth to 75%

Damage Mephistroth down to roughly 75% health, then stop dealing damage and wait for the Shadow Blast phase where Illidan needs protection.

3

Block Shadow Blasts with Aegis

Use the Aegis of Aggramar to intercept and block as many Shadow Blasts as possible during this phase — face Mephistroth at all times except when stepping in front of Illidan to block, because turning your back on him causes you to drop the Aegis and ends the mechanic.

4

DPS Mephistroth to 25%

After the first Shadow Blast phase ends, resume damaging Mephistroth to approximately 25% health, then wait for the second Shadow Blast phase and block as many orbs as possible again.

5

Track Progress, Then Kill Boss

The achievement tracker in your UI updates as Shadow Blasts are blocked — once it shows 20 blocks completed, the tracker turns white, at which point you can kill Mephistroth to complete the achievement.

6

Kill Adds Throughout Fight

Continue killing adds throughout the entire encounter rather than ignoring them, as leaving them alive causes them to overwhelm you and disrupts the Shadow Blast blocking phases.

Tips

  • If Illidan is hit by a Shadow Blast, he experiences a spell pushback that extends the Shadow Blast phase, giving you additional opportunities to block more orbs before the phase ends.

  • The 20 Shadow Blasts do not need to be blocked in a single phase — blocks accumulate across all Shadow Blast phases in the fight.
