Defeat the Desolate Host in Tomb of Sargeras while keeping the Diminishing Soul from perishing on Normal difficulty or higher.

Great Soul, Great Purpose requires you to defeat the Desolate Host in Tomb of Sargeras on Normal difficulty or higher while keeping the Diminishing Soul alive by catching it throughout the encounter.

1

Enter Tomb of Sargeras

Enter Tomb of Sargeras on Normal difficulty or higher and make your way to the Desolate Host encounter. This achievement can be soloed at max level as a well-geared character.

2

Catch the Opening Soul

At the start of the fight, a soul drops beneath the Engine of Souls. Stand in the yellow swirling circle that appears underneath the Engine to catch it — this is the first required soak.

3

Juggle the Soul Between Realms

Every 5 seconds after the initial catch, the soul launches in a random direction up to 20 yards away and must be caught by a player in the opposite realm. The same player cannot catch it twice in a row, so two players per realm are needed — one in the Corporeal Realm and one in the Spirit Realm — alternating catches in the rotation: Corporeal Soaker 1, Spirit Soaker 1, Corporeal Soaker 2, Spirit Soaker 2. Damage and abilities do not interfere with this mechanic.

4

Burst Down Both Bosses

While managing soul soaks, deal as much damage as possible to the Engine of Souls and then the Desolate Host. A solo BM Hunter at around 250 item level completed this in approximately 13 seconds with ~100k DPS, killing the encounter before the soul mechanic became difficult to manage.

Tips

  • If you are soloing, use heavy burst damage to kill the Engine of Souls and Desolate Host before the soul needs multiple passes — a fast kill reduces how many times the soul must be caught.

  • Do not kill the Engine of Souls too quickly with Dragonflight-level gear or higher, as the Desolate Host may fail to spawn, trapping you in the room and requiring you to wait until the weekly reset to attempt the encounter again.
