I Attack the Darkness
Defeat a Creature in the Dark during each of phase of the encounter with Xavius in The Emerald Nightmare on Normal difficulty or higher.
I Attack the Darkness requires you to defeat a Creature in the Dark during each of the three phases of the Xavius encounter in The Emerald Nightmare on Normal difficulty or higher.
Understand the Three Phases
The Xavius encounter has three phases: Phase 1 runs from 100% to 65%, Phase 2 from 65% to 30%, and Phase 3 below 30%. A Creature in the Dark spawns at the start of each phase, and you must kill one during each phase to complete the achievement.
Locate Creatures in the Dark
The Creatures in the Dark are hidden in the darkness surrounding the boss room and cannot be seen with normal vision. A Demon Hunter can use Spectral Sight to locate them, but be aware that Spectral Sight cancels if you deal or take damage, making the timing tricky.
Use Eye of Kilrogg as Warlock
A Warlock's Eye of Kilrogg can spot Creatures in the Dark from unlimited range, making the Warlock the easiest class for this achievement. If soloing as a Warlock, remove your gear before the fight so you do not accidentally kill Xavius before reaching the 65% and 30% phase thresholds, and dismiss your pet to avoid unintended damage.
Solo Without Warlock or Demon Hunter
If you are not playing a Warlock or Demon Hunter, farm the
Eye of Arachnida from the Nerubian boss on the Baron Rivendare side in Stratholme. It functions like Eye of Kilrogg and lets you see the hidden creatures, but it only has 3 charges, so you have exactly one attempt per item before returning to Stratholme to farm another.
Pull Creatures Into the Room
Once a Creature in the Dark is spotted, a Demon Hunter can tag it with Glaive Toss to pull it into the boss room where it can be killed. A Warlock using Eye of Kilrogg can also call out the creature's location to a nearby Demon Hunter who can then move in to engage it.
Tips
If soloing as a Warlock on Heroic, remove all gear to reduce your damage output so you can safely stop Xavius at the 65% and 30% thresholds without overshooting.
If farming the Eye of Arachnida from Stratholme, you can stockpile multiple charges by letting extra drops accumulate before your attempt.
